Hepatitis C information

HEPATITIS C can be cured NOW!
Yes, you did read that right. Hepatitis C can now be cured. There is a new group of medicines available for people living with long term Hepatitis C. Thy are listed under the PBS which means you can get the medicines for a very small cost. They are more effective, have fewer side effects and are easier to take than the older medications.

Who are eligible for it you ask? Well, it is available on PBS for all people lining with hepatitis C over the age of 18 and who have a Medicare Card. This also includes people who are still injecting rugs and people in prison as they are the priority population.

GPs can prescribe this medication but will need to do some tests to see if you fit the criteria. If you have cirrhosis (liver damage), you will need to be referred to the Liver Clinic for specialist input.

You could be putting your health at irks if you wait much longer especially if you are >40 years of age because you’re likely to experience an accelerated rate of liver damage which increases your risk of developing cirrhosis, liver cancer or liver failure.
